Counting for points in the 2001 American Le Mans Series, these two rounds of the European Le Mans Series were graced by a number of the American teams including the BMW Motorsport team fielding two 2001 spec M3 GTR's. These cars have the 90 degree V8 race engine specially developed for the GTR. This has caused a little bit of a stink with Porsche who are claiming the M3's are ineligible given that there isn't a road car available and this is, as far as they are concerned, a strict requirement of the rules.. They have a point but the ACO have ruled the car eligible for the time being!!! This argument is set to rumble on.

Suffering a little at Donington with both cars well down the running posting two DNF's, the team was on song by Jarama, posting first and second in class.
